Macau enjoyed record tourism during the October Golden Week holiday, according to figures from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

From Oct. 1-7, more than 993,100 people visited the gaming mecca, up 2 percent over the same period in 2019. Mainland Chinese visitors made up 83.2 percent of the total, with the rest coming from Hong Kong.

An average of 152,600 tourists arrived each day, mostly from the Chinese mainland.

That beat the government target of 130,000 per day. Golden Week marks the Oct. 1, 1949 founding of the People’s Republic of China. In the 75th anniversary year, the Chinese were determined to celebrate, despite prolonged economic uncertainty and low consumer confidence.
