Wendy Hamilton to Receive Philly Chamber of Commerce Award

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia (the Chamber) is pleased to announce that Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino, will receive the 2018 Paradigm Award, the region’s most prestigious award for businesswomen.

“Wendy is one of our region’s most influential figures and represents our community of outstanding business leaders,” said Chamber President and CEO Rob Wonderling. “She has paved the way for women in business as a successful leader of SugarHouse Casino, both regionally and nationally.”

Hamilton oversees 1,500 employees and all day-to-day operations at SugarHouse, including the property’s gaming repertoire, seven food and beverage venues and the Event Center. In addition to managing all property amenities, Hamilton supervises all human resources, marketing and finance functions.

A Philadelphia native, Hamilton received a bachelor of science in biology from Duke University and a master of business administration in finance from Saint Joseph’s University. Outside of the workplace, she is an active community leader serving on the boards of the Chamber, the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia and Visit Philadelphia.

Hamilton was named a 2017 Emerging Icon by the Philadelphia Inquirer for her outstanding leadership and dedication to making positive community impacts. In 2015, she was honored with the PAL Award from the Police Athletic League and the Cornerstone Award from SmartCEO for corporate leadership.

In addition to these honors, Hamilton has earned numerous leadership awards honoring women, including the Woman Who Empowers Us Award from 95.7 BenFM, and the Women’s Achievement Award from KYW Newsradio.

Under Hamilton’s leadership, SugarHouse has long been the title sponsor of notable city events like the New Year’s Eve fireworks and the Mummers Parade, and has also contributed more than $8 million to local community organizations, including the Penn Treaty Special Services District.

“It’s an incredible honor to receive the Paradigm award,” said Hamilton. “Not only am I proud to join this exclusive club of Philadelphia business leaders, but this award reflects the hard work and dedication the SugarHouse Team Members put in each and every day.”

This award has been given annually since 1992, Ms. Hamilton being the 26th Paradigm honoree. She is joining a distinguished field of past recipients that includes Teresa Bryce Bazemore of Radian Guaranty, Inc.; Emily Bittenbender of Bittenbender Construction LP; Sue Schick of UnitedHealthcare; Mary Stengel Austen of Tierney; Renee Amoore of The Amoore Group; and Judith von Seldeneck of Diversified Search Companies.
