Western Canada Adds Single-Event Sports Betting

The Western Canada Lottery Corp. (WCLC) is now offering a single-game wagering option through lottery retailers in the Western provinces.

The Sports Select option was added November 1 without flourish. Before that, sports betting was limited to parlays.

WCLC spokesman Kevin van Egdom said in a statement, “This is part of a suite of enhancements designed to modernize the product and improve the player experience, and it is now available throughout our region, comprising Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.”

The lottery has been working toward the addition since the Canadian Parliament legalized single-event wagers, he added.

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority is reportedly creating a new online gaming site that will include sports betting, with an anticipated 2022 launch.
