The Emlenton Truck Plaza, just off Exit 42 of Interstate 80, became the first truck stop in Western Pennsylvania to go live with video gaming terminals. The Emlenton location opened a Vegas-inspired game room last week, offering the maximum five VGTs.
Emlenton is the second truck stop in the state to go live with VGTs under Pennsylvania’s 2017 gaming expansion law, which authorizes truck stops selling 50,000 gallons or more of diesel fuel per month (among several other qualifying features) to offer up to five VGTs. The first, the Rutter’s location in York in central Pennsylvania, went live with VGTs on August 16.
“The travel plaza business is a very capital-intensive business,” Emlenton co-owner Carol Burns told the yourerie.com news site, “and the gaming proceeds will help offset some of the costs, while providing new entertainment options to patrons.”
Emlenton is one of dozen VGT applications approved so far by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, out of a total of 72 applications.
