Widus Delays Philippines Expansion

The initial phase of the expansion of the Widus Hotel and Casino complex in Clark Freeport Zone, in the Philippines, will be pushed back until late 2021 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The casino developer and operator said earlier this year that the property would be rebranded as the Hann Casino Resort. The first phase, expected to cost an estimated PHP12.0 billion (US$247.1 million), was slated for completion by the end of this year.

Also affected by the revised schedule is a plan to build a Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts on the new site, also originally set for this year.

“Due to the pandemic, [shifting the site of the Widus Casino] has been moved to the last quarter of 2021,” a spokesperson told GGRAsia.

Widus Group also said it was moving ahead with its “second, ultra-luxury resort” in the neighboring area of New Clark City. The Hann Lux Lifestyle Resort features three 18-hole, championship golf courses, and additional accommodations. The company provided no time frame for the launch of the second complex.
