Will Macau Light Rail Go Off Track?

Macau’s Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosário, says he’s concerned that the highly anticipated Taipa section of the city’s light rail system may not open as scheduled in 2019.

Raimundo do Rosário, Macau’s secretary for transport and public works, confesses he’s unsure the Taipa section of the under-construction light rail transit will launch as planned in 2019.

“There were previously some setbacks with the rail depot, but we are striving for the Taipa section to be completed by 2019,” Rosário told the city’s Legislative Assembly. “Will it be definitely operational by 2019? I’m a bit worried.” The 9.3-kilometre (5.8-mile) Taipa portion will stop at casino resorts on the Cotai Strip and also connect to Macau International Airport and the new Pac On ferry terminal.
