UK-based William Hill opened its U.S. operations four years ago, and recent revenue gains indicate the venture is a big success so far.
William Hill’s U.S. operations in April reported a 38 percent gain in money wagered and a 46 percent increase in net revenues over the prior 17 weeks.
Growth in William Hill’s online wagering in core markets have continued steady growth, but the U.S. market has shown the greatest potential for rapid and long-term growth.
William Hill has 2,370 licensed operations in the UK, but the European online gaming market is older than the U.S., where New Jersey generally has an early lead in online gaming, and Nevada regulators are looking to expand it in the Silver State.
William Hill says its gross win margins in the U.S. were boosted by high online win margins from Super Bowl 50, which the underdog Denver Broncos won. Its land-based operations in Nevada also fared well during the Super Bowl.
William Hill officials say they now are working on improving their online gaming in the U.S. and elsewhere. Although its U.S. numbers are doing well, William Hill says the market only represents a small amount of its international operations.
It’s looking to grow in the U.S., but that will require regulatory changes and approvals, which Nevada is looking and upon which New Jersey already has a lead.
