William Hill Leaves Czech Market

UK bookmaker William Hill has exited the Czech Republic as new gambling laws went into effect in the country January 1. William Hill advised players of the move through e-mails last month. The company left open the possibility that it will seek a Czech license in the future.

As new gambling laws went into effect in the Czech Republic on January 1, UK bookmaker William Hill withdrew from the market.

The new laws require operators to obtain new licensing. The company advised players and affiliates of the withdrawal through e-mails sent last month, but also assured affiliates that they hope to work in the country in the future. For now, however, the bookmaker has shut down operations in the country, it said.

The company also advised players that they would be able to withdraw balances and asked affiliates to stop marketing the brand to Czech players.

Czech officials plan to block online sites operating illegally in the country.
