William Hill will merge its U.K. online and retail divisions in the hope it will speed its recovery in 2021.
Online managing director Phil Walker will oversee the single U.K. market division, while retail division director Nicola Frampton will step down, according to the Racing Post. Frampton will work with Walker during a six month transition period.
“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the retail team at William Hill. Our shops play a vital role in our success and I look forward to working with Phil on a handover plan in the coming months,” Frampton said.
William Hill CEO Ulrik Bengtsson lamented Frampton’s parting. “Nicola has been with William Hill for ten years and has been a driving force on the executive team as well as being instrumental in reshaping and transforming our retail business.”
The merger is the latest strategy designed to offset regulatory and economic challenges, with last year’s ruling on fixed terminal betting limitations causing the closing of 713 betting shops.
