Winnebago Tribe Launches Project Forward

Project Forward, the $153 million expansion program of the Wisconsin Winnebago Tribe, recently kicked off, developing three Ho-Chunk Gaming-branded casinos in Wisconsin Dells (l.), Black River Falls and Wittenberg, Wisconsin. The additions and renovations at each property are expected to be finished by the end of 2017.

The Wisconsin Winnebago Tribe recently moved on its “Project Forward” plan, a 3 million expansion project at its casinos in Wisconsin Dells, Black River Falls and Wittenberg, Wisconsin. The tribe will develop three Ho-Chunk Gaming-branded casinos and add 100 jobs to its 3,400-person workforce. Tribal Secretary Elliot Garvin said, “It’s been a long time coming. We’re going to be delving into a new adventure here. I see nothing but good things coming for our people.” All work is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

The Wisconsin Dells property will have a new hotel main entrance, lobby, and bar, poker room and off-track betting facility, plus renovated bingo and buffet areas and a redesigned gaming floor with an expanded non-smoking area.

Black River Falls will get a new 120-room hotel and an expanded casino area with 200 additional slots and a high-limit area, plus a remodeled and enlarged buffet and added parking. Ho-Chunk Gaming Enterprise Executive Manager Greg Garvin said the casino attracts about 700,000 peoples a year, and Project Forward will allow it to continue as a “premiere gaming and entertainment center”.

The Wittenberg facility will expand its casino with 272 slots and 10 table games, plus new high-limit and non-smoking areas. A new 84-seat restaurant and bar and an 86-room hotel also will be added.
