In Keshena, Wisconsin, the Menominee Indian Tribe recently issued new emergency orders in a continuing effort to minimize the threat of response to Covid-19, including closing its Menominee Casino & Resort, Thunderbird gaming, bars, restaurants and farmers markets from Friday, August 7 through Tuesday, August 11.

Another emergency order requires all establishments, institutions, businesses, offices, stores and organizations to incorporate new health and safety protocols on behalf of tribal members and customers.

Some of the new guidelines include limiting capacity, social distancing, temperature screenings and requiring individuals age 5 and older to wear a mask when indoors.

Under the new orders, those in violation may be fined up to $500 per infraction. The tribe’s curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily will remain in effect through August 31.

Chairwoman Joan Delabreau said, “Public safety is the tribe’s incident command’s number one priority. As we continue to understand the impact of Covid-19, limiting community engagement is intended to support slowing the spread of this virus. Covid-19 remains widespread in our communities, putting lives and public health at risk. We have to continue to keep doing the things that are helping to protect such as wearing a mask, staying physically distant, avoiding activities that lead to gathering and staying home as much as possible.”
