Work Pace Quickens on New York Casino

Hundreds of construction workers are preparing the planned Montreign Resort Casino at Adelaar for its March 2018 opening date, and developer Empire Resorts anticipates having 2,000 workers on site soon. Going up is a 93,000-square-foot casino, an 18-story, 332-room hotel, and dining, retail, and entertainment venues. Meanwhile, a proposed casino in Suffolk County might wind up in Islandia.

The Montreign Resort Casino at Adelaar has hundreds of construction workers and many more coming to get the casino ready for its planned March 2018 opening.

The site has about 300 workers and several cranes already preparing its footprint, and Empire Resorts expects to have about 2,000 construction workers as the building pace reaches full capacity in the coming months.

A four-story parking structure already has been built to accommodate guests at the $1.3 billion casino development, which includes an 18-story hotel.

Once completed, Empire Resorts plans to have a 93,000-square-foot casino, 332-room hotel, an entertainment venue, dining, and retail stores.

Also planned is a water park, golf course, and nature trail.

In Suffolk County, local lawmakers say the former Marriott Hotel site in Islandia is a superior location to another proposed in Medford.

The Islandia site is located in a commercial district on the north side of the Long Island Expressway, while most local residents live south of the Expressway.

That provides a significant separation of residential areas and the potential casino, while also helping to ensure local traffic won’t become congested.

The 31-acre site under consideration in Medford, however, is located on the south side of the Expressway and faces strong local opposition.

Suffolk Off-Track Betting bought the site in 2014, but abandoned plans to open gaming casino with 1,000 video lottery terminals amid local opposition.
