The World Poker Fund Holdings has recruited Martin Owens to become the company’s chief adviser.
Owens has specialized in online gaming law since 1998. The group said one of Owens’ main roles will be to work with Native Indian tribes across the US, help them gain recognition by the government, and petition for various gambling laws allowing tribes to set up online gambling sites.
California is seen as a prime target for the group’s efforts.
“This is a very exciting project,” Owens said. “The players, the technology, the platforms are all coming together right here in California. It’s time to bring online poker up to its full potential, in the USA and all over the world.”
California has failed to pass online gambling legislation, but a new push is expected when the state legislature reconvenes later this month.
