WSOP and 888 Combine Player Pools in New Jersey

Two of New Jersey’s online poker sites—WSOP.com and 888poker—will team players pools for some tournaments in an experiment designed to increase online prizes and player bases. Though both are partnered with Caesars Entertainment properties in the state, they haven’t shared player pools until now.

888 Poker has been partnered with Caesars Entertainment to offer online poker in New Jersey, but has not shared players with Caesars WSOP.om online poker site up until now.

That’s changing. The two online sites will now share player pools in a variety of low-stakes tournament play as well as major tournaments with high prize pool guarantees. The two sites are trying to increase both player liquidity and tournament prizes.

Online poker has brought in only 25 percent of the state’s about $129million in online gambling revenue in the first year of operation, according to state regulators. The rest has come from slots and casino games.

WSOP and 888 will now begin sharing $130,000 in guaranteed tournaments each week, but both will maintain their individual rewards and VIP programs.

David Licht, chief executive officer of the All American Poker Network, the joint venture between 888 Holdings and Avenue Capital, said that the move would help boost customer numbers on both websites.

“Shared liquidity will help create a better player experience that we hope will attract a diversity of players and begin to bring poker to a broader audience once again,” David Licht, told the Washington Times.
