The 2016 World Series of Poker aims to be more social media friendly and will introduce several moves to up the social media quotient of the event.
They include a new social media tool to allow players to post chip counts and other messages and the appointment of Kevin Mathers as “Twitter Czar.”
The new live reporting chip counting tool, ChipIn, will allow players to share their chip counts during events from their table or seat, the WSOP said in a press release. Players can update their chip counts from any smartphone or tablet which will then add them to the official WSOP “chip count list.” The list will also show the top 10 counts in the entire tournament.
Mathers, known as KevMath at PokerFives, will handle tweets for the WSOP’s Twitter accounts and his own to answer questions and give updates on both the live and online action.
Other improvements to the series include an “eQueue Payout Process,” that will text players when their cash outs are ready at the cage, and a new format to the web live stream that will include coverage of all the activity, not just the final tables, the release said.
