WSOP Main Event to Set Payout Record

A record 1,011 players at the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas will receive a cash payout as the event has drawn 6.737 players, the highest total since 2011.

More than a thousand players in the World Series of Poker’s main event this year will receive a payout, setting a new record for the event.

In all, the event drew 6,737 players with 4,240 playing in the third day of the event’s opening round, also a record for a single-day field in the tournament. The eventual winner will earn an $8 million prize.

This is the second year the WSOP has paid out to 15 percent of the field instead of 10 percent. The change was made after players said they wanted a better chance to place in the money, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

The total prize pool for the event is $63,327,800.
