WSOP Sets Total Entry Record

The World Series of Poker has set a new record with 121,000 entrants, an increase of 13,000 players over 2016. The prize pool for all 74 events topped $231 million.

The World series of Poker remains the premiere poker event in the world as it set a new record for entries with 121,000, an increase of more than 13,000 entries than in 2016.

Overall, the 74-tournament event had more than $231 million in prize pools.

The WSOP Main Event brought in 7,221 players—an increase over last year but not a record.

The final table of the Main Event featured two former third-place finishers, 32-year-old Las Vegas resident Ben Lamb and 33-year-old Parisian Antoine Saout vying for the $8.1 million top prize.

The WSOP moved the final table back to July after several years of holding the event in November to accommodate taped broadcasts of the event on ESPN. This year, the network televised the event live on a 30-minute delay.
