Last week, Caesars Entertainment announced that the World Series of Poker (WSOP) will move from its longtime home at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to two Strip-based resorts: Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino and Paris Las Vegas. Caesars sold the Rio last year to New York developers Dreamscape and will cease operating the property’s gaming operations at the end of 2023.
The 53rd WSOP will take place from May 31 to July 19, 2022. Actor Vince Vaughn will serve as master of ceremonies.
The Rio has hosted the event for 17 years, reported the Las Vegas Sun. Prior to that, it was held at Binion’s in Downtown Vegas.
“As we approach the Final Table, we look back on yet another successful Main Event that exceeded expectations,” said World Series of Poker Senior Vice President Ty Stewart in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled with this year’s turnout, both domestically and internationally. As we close out this chapter at the Rio, we are excited to have the iconic Vince Vaughn usher in a new era of WSOP at Bally’s and Paris next summer.”
“I have such a strong connection to Las Vegas and am honored to be selected as the master of ceremonies for what is set to be the most anticipated World Series of Poker tournament ever,” Vaughn said in a statement. “Poker has long been one of my favorite sports, so to be a part of something as historic as the WSOP finally moving to the Strip is an absolute dream. Vegas Baby, Vegas!”
The full 2022 WSOP schedule is expected to be published in January.
