Just in time for the Super Bowl, the Greenbrier Resort (l.) in West Virginia announced a sports betting app partnership with BetMGM, a joint venture between MGM Resorts and GVC. The Greenbrier already partners with FanDuel. West Virginia's five casinos are allowed up to three sports betting and online casino partnerships; three casinos do not offer mobile sports betting.

In West Virginia, BetMGM recently launched its sports betting app, partnering with the Greenbrier. FanDuel also partners with the Greenbrier, and DraftKings with Hollywood Casino, owned by Penn National, with whom DraftKings has a national market access partnership.

BetMGM is a joint venture between MGM Resorts and GVC, which together form Roar Digital. That enterprise struck a deal with Yahoo Sports to integrate its product into the Yahoo app. Previously, BetMGM only served the New Jersey market, where it held a 7.7 percent market share with less than $1 million in online revenue as of December.

Five casinos in West Virginia are eligible to form sports betting and online casino partnerships. Each is allowed up to three partners for sports betting, so the Greenbrier has room for one more. Three casinos in the state still have no mobile sports betting.

Mountaineer offers a retail sportsbook in partnership with William Hill. That might eventually extend to mobile betting, however, officials have not announced plans for that. Delaware North, which owns Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras casinos, actually was the first company to offer a mobile sports betting app, BetLucky, but a dispute with former partner Miomni resulted in BetLucky going offline in March 2019.

Meanwhile, Delaware North recently announced it will provide sportsbooks at Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras through IGT and Betgenius, although the timing isn’t set.

In a release, Brian Hansberry, Delaware North’s gaming division president, emphasized Delaware North can count on IGT as a reliable partner. “IGT is a serious sports betting technology provider with a proven commitment to customer success, excellent global reputation and a reliable, omni-channel sports betting solution for the U.S. market. We believe the IGT PlaySports solution will help us establish Delaware North as a preferred sports betting provider in West Virginia and Arkansas while enabling us to further reward our Lucky North Club members.”

IGT’s PlayDigital Senior Vice President Enrico Drago added, “Delaware North can count on IGT’s experienced team and trusted technology to help build a sports betting business that can scale for the opportunities of today and the future.”
