Wynn Withdraws New Jersey Online Gambling Application

Wynn Interactive is backing off its application for an online gambling license in New Jersey. The company has said its online plans are on hold and asked New Jersey regulators to withdraw its application for an online license.

Steve Wynn and Wynn Interactive have decided not to pursue online gambling in New Jersey and have withdrawn their application for a state license.

Without public comment, the company sent a letter to the state Division of Gaming Enforcement saying that “at this time, Wynn does not wish to proceed with its application. Therefore, kindly accept this correspondence as a formal request to withdraw such application.” The division’s director approved the request soon after, NJ.com reported.

Wynn Interactive first began the preliminary licensing procedure in 2013. But Wynn seemed to sour on online gambling and warned he might change his mind. He was quoted as saying that online gambling “is not a good entrepreneurial opportunity.”

The company was expected to partner with Caesars casinos in Atlantic City to offer online gambling. In New Jersey, online sites must partner with an Atlantic City casino.
