Wyoming Sports Betting Launch Uncertain

Rules for Wyoming sports betting have been forwarded by the Wyoming Gaming Commission to Governor Mark Gordon for final approval, but it’s uncertain when sports bets will actually be accepted.

When DraftKings representative Chris Cipolla asked when applications would be released. Commission President Bob Davis quipped, “I think that’s putting the cart before the horse.”

Commission Executive Director Charlie Moore added, “For me, the focus is what’s in front of me and then I’ll move to Phase 2. Obviously, you want to start operating, we have the same goal. We have a lot on our plate right now, and we’ll keep plowing through.” Moore provided no timeline for applications and licensing.

The sports betting law calls for rules to be completed by September 1, about a week before the official beginning of the NFL season.

Wyoming’s online sports betting marketplace will be as freewheeling as the Old West. It will be the second state to offer online-only sports wagering because the state has no casinos.
