Wyoming Tribe Gets Ultimatum

Wyoming’s Northern Arapaho Tribal Court has given the tribal business council until October 23 to show why it should follow the orders of the tribal council and fire the two top executives of the Wind River Hotel & Casino in Wyoming. The tribal council September 9 ordered the business council to fire the CEO and assistant manager—but so far nothing has been done.

The Northern Arapaho Business Council has been given two weeks—or until October 23—by the tribal court to show why it has declined to fire the two top executives of the Wind River Hotel & Casino, despite being ordered to by the tribal council last month.

The order was issued by the Northern Arapaho Tribal Court, which ordered the business council to show “sufficient cause” why it has so far declined to carry out instructions by the tribal council, which on September 9 ordered that CEO Jim Conrad and Assistant Manager Andrea Clifford be dismissed.

Following that order the business council took a vote in which only three of the six members voted to fire the executives. The court took its ruling after a tribal member asked it to intervene. The member also asked that Conrad be “banished” from the reservation.
