Yahoo Appears to Be Leaving Fantasy Sports

Yahoo seems to be sneaking away from the online gaming and paid fantasy sports world. Some experts say it is doing it to avoid possible legal risks.

Yahoo appears to be quietly leaving the online gaming and fantasy sports marketplace.

It has not announced that it’s doing this, but with the opening day of Major League Baseball looming Yahoo has not announced the re-launch of its play for cash fantasy baseball league contests. It will offer free leagues and custom leagues, but nothing involving the transfer of money.

Yahoo did not offer fantasy basketball leagues last year and ceased offering online Texas Hold ‘em in December.

Some legal experts speculate that Yahoo has determined that pay fantasy leagues are too risky in several states, including Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, Washing, Arkansas, Florida and Tennessee. In several of those states playing fantasy leagues is technically considered illegal gambling.
