A popular hideaway for celebrities and billionaires, the Maldives offer romantic charm, white sand beaches, breezy palms and awesome scuba diving to view coral reefs and ocean life. Now Orivaru, a tropical island paradise in the Maldives, has come on the market–complete with building permits for a luxury hotel resort and spa and a blank slate for development.
Located in the northern Maldives about 100 miles north of the capital Male, the 34.6-acre Orivaru is one of 71 islands forming the Noonu Atoll. It’s one of only 13 inhabited islands, with a luxury Hilton resort and spa on Minaavaru, just three miles away.
The Ministry of Tourism has issued planning permits for a luxury island resort on Orivaru with 100 five-star private rooms and water villas along the coastline, plus restaurants, guest lounges, pools and a wellness spa. The island also features a natural port for boats and seaplanes.
The Maldivian registered owners are seeking offers of around $14 million. Orivaru is held on a long leasehold from the Maldivian government although these are frequently renegotiated and extended. Alan O’Connor, who is marketing the site for the Debutesq Group, said, “Being just 45 minutes by seaplane from Male International Airport, this could no doubt become another very successful tourist destination. A Russian investor recently purchased an island in the northern Atolls for $65 million so there is definitely a market out there.”
