Zambian Residents Blame Attacks on Slot Machines

Some residents of the African town of Lusaka blame Bonanza slot machines for a series of thefts and attacks on security guards.

Some residents of Lusaka in the African nation of Zambia say that so-called Bonanza slot machines are attracting attacks on guards in the Lilanda market.

The Times of Zambia reported that, according to some, the machines are attracting the criminal element that want to loot the machines of their coins. They also blame the machines for causing children to skip classes in order to play.

Some residents say the machines have no business in the markets and are probably operating illegally. One resident declared, “How can they put casinos in markets, I am sure people operating those machines are doing it illegally, because I doubt if the council can allow casinos machines in markets.”
