A total of 2,014 people picked the winning numbers 0-0-0-0 in the North Carolina Educational Lottery’s June 22 Pick 4 drawing. They’ll share $7.8 million, the largest amount ever won in a single drawing in the game. The top prize of $5,000 will go to players holding one of the 1,002 winning $1 tickets; players holding a 50-cent ticket will win $2,500.
The previous record was $7.5 million, set in 2012, when the winning Pick 4 numbers were 1-1-1-1.
Pick 4 players call the winning numbers 0-0-0-0 “Quads.” They’re among the most popular combinations of numbers played.
The odds of matching all four numbers in a Pick 4 drawing are 1 in 10,000.
Lottery officials said winners should expect “extended waiting times” when picking up their prizes at one of the six lottery regional offices. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and close at 5 p.m. Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes and must bring a photo ID and proof of their Social Security number to complete their claims. Prizes also may be claimed by mail.
