Brazilian National Sports Betting Secretariat established
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, has signed a decree to establish the National Sports Betting Secretariat.
The new department will sit within the Ministry of Sports and will oversee the analysis of licenses awarded by the Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA).
The department will monitor sports betting in Brazil, while it will also work alongside the newly established Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) to combat match-fixing in the country.
Betano’s LatAm Push Continues with Mendoza License
Betano has taken the next step in its LatAm igaming expansion after securing a license to operate in the Argentinian province of Mendoza.
As reported by local website MDZ, the move comes after Rush Street Interactive made the decision to transfer its Mendoza license to Betano, which also holds a license for the Buenos Aires region.
Kaizen Gaming-owned Betano is one of just two operators to have so far applied for a license in Brazil ahead of the upcoming launch of the legal sports betting and iGaming market. The Greek operator currently sponsors the top-flight leagues in both Brazil and Argentina, while also sponsoring the recent Copa America tournament.
Betsson’s Inkabet Acquires Peru License
Betsson subsidiary Inkabet has acquired local licenses in the newly regulated market of Peru.
Inkabet’s operations will be powered by GiG’s platform after the two companies agreed an expansion to their deal, one that now covers eight markets in Europe and LatAm.
The operator also recently acquired licenses for its Betsson and Betsafe brands for Peru. Aside from Peru, Betsson also holds licenses in other LatAm markets, such as Colombia and Argentina.
Peru “Up Next” for Galaxsys, Says Soffer
Peru will be the next target of focus for Galaxsys, according to the company’s SVP of Sales and Business Development Gil Soffer.
In an interview with iGB at iGB Live, Soffer revealed the company’s success in Brazil had set Galaxsys up to pursue further LatAm growth in the newly regulated market of Peru.
Soffer said Galaxsys was adapting its games to suit the local Peru market, pointing to the high usage of mobile as a key reason why LatAm is seen as one of the biggest growth regions in gambling.
