$50M Sparks Nugget Renovation Partly Done

The Nugget in Sparks, Nevada, is undergoing a $50 million renovation that new CEO Carlton Geer says is intended to draw more locals, while continuing to improve out-of-state visitations. Just one of two casinos in Sparks, Geer wants more business from locals in the Reno area, while giving the casino a vibrant, modern, and new feel.

The Nugget in Sparks, Nevada, is about halfway done with a million renovation that reinvigorates its interior, provides new options for guests, and keeps the old casino’s popular elements.

The casino has new table games and slot machines, several restaurants are new or remodeled, and hotel rooms in the casino’s west tower will undergo a spring remodeling.

New CEO Carlton Geer said room occupancy is up by more than 20 percent since the casino was bought in 2013, and he is working to improve visitation from locals, while out-of-state visitors have come in increasingly larger numbers.

Among efforts to attract more local are a recent Halloween beer festival called Boos and Brews, a North Pole Village for the holidays, and new restaurants for more dining options.

The Nugget is the second casino in the Reno area to undertake a renovation. The Grand Sierra Resort finished a three-year renovation in 2014, and the Nugget likewise wants to make its casino more modern, vibrant, and inviting for tourists and locals alike.
