Announced earlier this week, Levin will take on his new role at Accel immediately. He will oversee all legal affairs and report directly to CEO Andy Rubenstein.
Levin joins Accel after most recently leading Portco Advisors as founder and managing director since January of last year. Here, he advised companies undergoing periods of significant transformation.
Prior to this, he served as general counsel for companies including Torex Retail, a specialist provider of information technology systems. He also worked for several startups such as Atlas Power Group, Coskata, eMac Digital and OurHouse.
In addition, he has held senior leadership positions with both public and private companies across various industries. This included stints as CEO of FTD Companies and general counsel for Morton’s Restaurant Group.
Levin Brings ‘Invaluable’ Experience to Accel
CEO Rubenstein welcomed the addition of Levin. He said that Levin will bring “invaluable” experience to Accel across multiple legal disciplines.
“In the gaming sector, a strong legal function is essential for long-term growth,” Rubenstein said. “Scott brings the key legal experience needed to help us further strengthen our best-in-class organization.”
Levin added: “I have been closely following Accel’s sustained growth since becoming a public company. I am thrilled to join the team at such an exciting stage of development.
“Accel’s commitment to excellence and determination to fuel growth through innovation is inspiring. I look forward to working with the incredibly talented leadership team and everyone at the company to help advance Accel’s industry-leading position in the locals gaming sector.”
Linking in with this announcement is the news that Derek Harmer, currently general counsel and chief compliance officer at Accel, will take on a new role as the company’s first dedicated chief compliance officer.
Harmer will continue to report to CEO Rubenstein, overseeing Accel’s national compliance and government affairs functions.
“Derek has made a tremendous impact on our organization while leading the legal and compliance teams,” Rubenstein said. “His success in this dedicated national role will be a key driver in supporting the company’s commitment to compliance and growth into new regulated markets.”
