Addabbo Turns Energy to Downstate NY Casino Licenses

With mobile betting setting records, Senator Joseph Addabbo says the time Has come to award the three licenses for greater New York City casinos. Resorts World New York City in Queens deserves one of them, he said.

“They’ve proven to be a great neighbor and a true economic engine in our district.” Addabbo told QNS. Since it opened in 2011, the property has raised more than $3 billion for the state education fund, as well as created hundreds of jobs.

The licenses could bring in tax revenue for the state, additional educational funding and improvements to problem gambling programs,” Addabbo said.

A full casino license allows Resorts World to bring in live table games.

“Resorts World’s presence in southeast Queens has been a boon for the local community,” Queens Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tom Grech said. “Since opening, they have brought economic activity to the area that supports local small businesses, created good-paying jobs for residents, generated billions in tax revenue.”

February 14 also saw another piece of sports betting legislation from Addabbo Jr. move forward.

S 7536 moved out of his Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee after a brief discussion. The bill would allow fixed-odds horse betting as well as sports betting kiosks at various affiliates. Those affiliates include sports stadiums and arenas, horse tracks and VLT operators.

The bill now moves to the Finance Committee.
