In Alabama, after a patron at Wind Creek Casino in Wetumpka tested positive for coronavirus, Wind Creek Casino officials said the casino property would close March 15 for 24 hours for deep cleaning. However, "upon further consideration" they closed all three locations until March 30.

Wind Creek Casinos in Wetumpka, Montgomery and Atmore, Alabama closed on Sunday, March 15 through Monday, March 30. Previously, officials said they would voluntarily close the properties for a 24-hour deep clean after it was discovered a patron with COVID-19 visited the Wetumpka venue during the third week of February. The casinos are owned by the Poarch Creek Band.

In a statement, Wind Creek said, “Upon further consideration of the events occurring during these unprecedented times facing our communities and country, Wind Creek will voluntarily extend the closure of its Alabama properties until March 30, 2020.”

Following the deep cleaning, Wind Creek officials said the properties would reopen with social distancing practices in place, such as limiting active machines on the casino floor, high limit areas and non-smoking areas; limiting seating and spacing at all restaurants and bars; and configuring queue lines to support social spacing.

Wind Creek officials said salaried and tipped employees will be paid during the temporary closure.
