Alon Las Vegas Work Begun

Surveying and earthmoving work has started at the site of the proposed Alon resort casino on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, where the New Frontier Casino (l.) once stood. Alon officials have not announced specific plans, but they intend to build 26- and 17-story towers, provide more than 27,000 square feet of gaming space, and support events, restaurants, retail stores, and entertainment.

Workers recently began earthmoving in preparation for construction of the Alon casino on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip where the New Frontier was located.

Site cleanup and surveying is being done, and Alon officials say the project likely fully will get underway during 2016, when more formalized plans are in place and can be announced.

The work is being done on a 34.6-acre parcel located on the west side of the Las Vegas Strip and north of the Fashion Show Mall.

Crown Resorts is developing the 1,100-room, 3.4 million-square-foot resort, which would include a 26-story tower, a 17-story VIP tower, and 27,800 square feet of gaming space.

The facility also would have a nearly 85,000-square-foot space for conventions, trade shows, and expositions, restaurants, retail stores, and a theater.

Developers in 2007 demolished the former New Frontier casino, and planned to build a new luxury casino resort on the site, but the Great Recession canceled those plans.

Alon wants to build a luxury resort on the site.
