American Airlines Boosts Vegas Flights

American Airlines, which will soon merge with US Airways, will increase flight capacity into Las Vegas for the first quarter of 2014. McCarran officials hope for more flights from Asia.

Though American Airlines recently announced it would end direct flights from Reagan National Airport in Virginia into many small and midsize cities, it is actually increasing its presence in Las Vegas.

American, the third largest carrier into McCarran International Airport, will increase capacity during January, February and March before trimming back in April.

After meeting with officials from McCarran, Union Gaming reported it is “optimistic both in the short and long-term outlook for increased airlift into the market.”

Longer-term, Union said, the World Routes Conference “could spur a variety of foreign carriers to increase their presence in Las Vegas,” and airport officials anticipate more direct routes from Japan and China in the future.
