Arizona Tribe Plans New Casino

The Yavapai-Prescott tribe plans to break ground on a new casino in Arizona in the fall. The $80 million casino is expected to take 12 months to complete.

Arizona’s Yavapai-Prescott tribe plans to begin building a new million casino this fall, with an anticipated opening at the end of 2016.

According to the Daily Courier, which interviewed the tribe’s general manager, Rich Marcum, the casino would be located on the reservation near Highway 69. The tribe had planned to make an announcement this week, but word leaked out.

The tribe currently operates two casinos near Prescott: Bucky’s, with 309 slots and Yavapai, with 244 slots. The tribe’s compact with the state allows it to have 566 slots and 90 card games, so it is likely it will need to close both of these existing operations. It will include a hotel with up to 80 rooms and several dining venues, to compliment the existing 160 Prescott Resort.

Leo A. Daly will be the architectural, engineering and interiors firm for the casino project.

The project still requires the approval of the Bureau of Indian Affairs as the Indian Gaming Regulatory Commission.
