Arizona Tribe Won’t Allow National Guard on Lands

The Tohono O’odham tribe, which operates the Desert Diamond casinos, wants visitors to its casinos, but draws the line at the National Guard. Last week the tribe declared it will take no part in a Guard deployment to protect the border.

Arizona’s Tohono O’odham tribe is choosing the opt out of President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard along the border with Mexico.

Tribal officials said last week they wouldn’t allow the Arizona National Guard to be deployed on tribal lands that abut the international border, which accounts for about 73 miles of the border.

During the presidential election of 2016 the tribe also declared that it wouldn’t allow a wall to be built on the border on its reservation.

The tribe operates the Desert Diamond casino in Tucson and the Desert Diamond West Valley Casino in Glendale.
