Southland Casino Racing in West Memphis, Arkansas has returned to operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The casino closed in March 2020 due to Covid-19 and reopened May 18 with limited hours.
In October 2020, the venue expanded weekend operations to 24 hours a day.
Southland Casino Racing President and General Manager David Wolf said, “We’re very pleased to be able to operate with ‘normal’ hours once again.” He noted Southland will continue to operate under the Play It Safe health and safety program of parent company Delaware North.
Southland Marketing Manager Natalie Carlson said the venue’s $250 million expansion is progressing although completion now is expected in 2022 due to Covid-19. The project will include a new gaming complex and a 20-story, 300-room high-rise hotel. “We adopted a controlled pace for construction based on the pandemic’s financial impact on the business since March and going forward into 2021. We have a great facility in place and so it’s fine for us to push out completion of the expansion to after business conditions should be back to normal,” Carlson said.
According to MBJ research, the 82,000-square-foot Southland Casino Racing employs 900 people.
