The Asian Poker Tour will team CoinPoker, which describes its services as a worldwide cryptocurrency based online poker room.
Under the deal, CoinPoker will allow international players to enter online qualifying events for APT Main Events, Super High Roller events and other APT tournaments. CoinPoker will also sponsor live online streaming of selected events, the our said in a press release.
The agreement will go into effect in time for this month’s APT Macau Championships 2018.
“APT event players will now be able to buy in and cash out using CHP, the cryptocurrency developed by and used on CoinPoker,” said APT general manager Lloyd Fontillas, in the release.
In another cryptocurrency story, the Malta Gaming Authority has published proposed guidelines on using distributed ledger technology and cryptocurrencies within the nation’s online gaming space.
The rules are in a public comment phase and designed to protect consumers, prevent money laundering and other crimes and protect Malta’s reputation.
Companies that accept cryptocurrencies will have satisfy a range of conditions, including that the cryptocurrencies provide financial and technological value, that they can be traded on exchanges with a “competitive market capitalization” and that they are integral to the company’s use case.
The regulator says it will evaluate each cryptocurrency and provide final approval over whether a company can utilize them in their businesses.
The guidelines also specify how AML procedures should work, noting that game operators must plan for “the risks which may arise, or be exacerbated by, the use of cryptocurrencies or custom tokens as a funding method.”
