Atari Partners With Social Casino Company FlowPlay

Once noted video game innovator Atari hopes to rebound from bankruptcy by entering the social casino games market with partner FlowPlay. The deal will lead to a multi-platform product titled Atari Casino.

Video game pioneer Atari has teamed with Seattle-based FlowPlay to create Atari Casino, a new multi-platform social casino product.

Atari Casino will be available on browsers, Facebook, and as a mobile app. The system is similar to FlowPlay’s Vegas World, a multi-player online role-playing game, but will also include some of Atari’s classic games.

“We see partnering with FlowPlay and entering the social casino market as a natural progression for us,” Atari Inc. CEO Fred Chesnais said in a press release. “As we move beyond gaming, taking advantage of such a rapidly growing industry that aligns well with our core business is important.”

FlowPlay CEO Derrick Morton added that the deal would help his product reach a new audience.

“While our first-party social casino business is growing at double digits for the past several months, we know that to really scale we need to have several products in the channel. Working with companies like Atari to build new products using our platform allows us to reach more consumers and ultimately build a bigger business with less risk,” said Morton.

Atari enjoyed great success in the early video game market in the 1980s, but filed for bankruptcy in January 2013. The company emerged from bankruptcy in December committed to entering the social gambling market.
