Atlantic City Resorts Flapper Costume Lawsuit Settled

Resorts Atlantic City has apparently settled a lawsuit with 40 female workers that objected to revealing “flapper” costumes they were required to wear when the casino adopted a Roaring 20s theme in 2011. Some of the workers charged they lost their jobs after having to go through an audition in the costumes designed to purge older workers.

Resorts Atlantic City has settled a lawsuit brought by 40 women who objected to wearing revealing 20s-style flapper costumes and having to “audition” for cocktail serving jobs.

In a court filing, both sides agreed to end the case. Though details of a settlement were not released, the filing suggest one was reached.

The case was filed in 2011. According to the Press of Atlantic City, the workers were required to wear the costume of the casino’s then Roaring 20s theme and also take part is a “bizarre” audition as part of the casino’s rebranding.

Many of the workers charged the casino was trying to purge older servers from their jobs to attract a younger clientele.

Neither side commented on the settlement.
