An Australian communications agency has taken steps to block 10 illegal offshore betting websites.
After a number of complaints, the Australian Communications and Media Agency investigated the sites and concluded they violated the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 by offering services in opposition to Australian standards, according to SBCNews.
Putting a block on websites is part of the enforcement measures the agency has at its disposal to stem the tide of illegal gambling operators. The number of blocked websites rose to 238 since the first request in November 2019. Another 130 illegal sites have been taken down since 2017 thanks to new enforcement directives.
Last month, the agency asked to get rid of 18 gaming websites. The authority to take down the sites falls under the Telecommunications Act 1997.
