Barstool to Open Philadelphia Sports Bar

Barstool Sports has revealed it has broken ground on the Barstool Sports Bar in Center City Philadelphia. The company, part-owned by Penn National Gaming, is building the venue on the site of the Boyd Theater in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square.

The sports bar will not include a retail sportsbook, which negates the requirement for Barstool to secure a gaming license for the venue. However, the location will promote the use of the Barstool Sports mobile sportsbook in an atmosphere catering to a younger demographic with food, drinks and multiple TV monitors.

Barstool and Penn National, which had kept the location of a planned Barstool-branded sports bar secret, revealed the location in a Thanksgiving Day Instagram post.

Penn National paid around $163 million last year for a 36 percent stake in Barstool, with the option to eventually acquire the entire company.
