BBC Drops Saturday Night Lottery Draw

BBC One broadcast the final televised UK National Lottery draw on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Results after that will be available on iPlayer. Tim Copper, digital director at lottery operator Camelot, said the change was made because players prefer to check lottery results at any time, across multiple platforms.

The final televised UK National Lottery draw on BBC One will be broadcast on Saturday, January 7, 2017. After that, lucky numbers will be revealed on iPlayer. Director of BBC Content Charlotte Moore said, “This new deal reaffirms the BBC’s commitment to the National Lottery and our ongoing relationship with Camelot. We both recognize the need to provide audiences with more ways to access the draw results across a range of platforms that reflect changing behavior, while importantly retaining a home on BBC One and continuing our support for the tremendous work they do through the Annual Awards show.”

Camelot Digital Director Tim Copper added, “We’re delighted to have signed this contract extension, maintaining the strong relationship that has flourished between the National Lottery and the BBC since the National Lottery’s launch 22 years ago.” Copper said because consumer trends indicate “an unrelenting shift towards digital platforms,” Camelot officials determined that players would prefer to check results at any time, across multiple platforms.

However, he stated, “It’s also great that we can continue to provide a service to those loyal BBC One viewers who want their lottery results available at a regular time as they enjoy their favorite BBC shows. This new deal will allow us to do both.”
