Gateway Casinos & Entertainment has announced that its proposed casino in Ladner, British Columbia will be called the Delta Cascades Casino, similar to its other casinos in Langley, Kamloops and Penticton.
Gateway CEO Tony Santo declared, “We look forward to bringing this state of-the-art entertainment destination to this rapidly growing community.”
Gateway made the announcement last week at the Delta Chamber of Commerce office. Gateway operates 25 casinos in three Canadian provinces.
Hearings were scheduled to begin this week. The proposal would require tearing down an existing 49-room hotel to make way for a new complex that would open in two years. It would include a hotel with up to 124 rooms, dining, convention space, with a casino with 500 slots, 24 table games and six e-tables.
Nearby Richmond, which has its own casino resort, River Rock, is protesting the proposed rival.
Some opposition from local residents has also arisen, based on concerns about problem gambling, traffic and increase crime.
A recent study by the British Canadian Lottery Corporation estimated that 3.3 percent of all adults in the province have a moderate to severe problem with gambling. BCLC assures the public that it has adopted a policy to encourage responsible behavior based on this program: “promote positive play, promote informed decision making, reduce problem gambling prevalence and facilitate effective referral to treatment and support.”
