BetVictor Sells Off Betting Points

U.K. racetrack betting provider Star Sports has acquired assets including 18 prime racecourse betting points from BetVictor for an undisclosed sum. The firm has said it plans to focus more on its online business.

U.K. bookmaker Star Sports will add on-site betting points at racetracks at Sundown Park, Cheltenham, Goodwood Newmarket and Ascot, the company has announced. It bought the portfolio from BetVictor for an unknown amount.

“It’s a real honor to be taking over these prime pitches from a firm with such a strong heritage in the bookmaking industry and we are equally thrilled that they have chosen Star Sports as the ideal buyer,” said Star Sports owner Ben Keith.

“We feel the time is right to sell our pitches as we concentrate on the online-digital side of our business and have set ourselves challenging targets for the next three years,” added Andreas Meinrad, CEO of BetVictor. “Horseracing remains a fundamental part of our business but we felt there was no longer a need for an on-course presence.”

Star Sports, which calls itself Britain’s biggest luxury bookmaker, was launched as Star Racing in 1999. With the acquisition of independent bookmakers Vickers, Waldron and Turner & Kendrick, the company grew beyond on-course operations and changed its name in 2009.
