Bill Would Add Train Station at Atlantic City Airport

A bill to construct a station for NJ Transit trains to service Atlantic City International Airport has been introduced in the New Jersey Assembly. The bill does not name a price for constructing the station.

A bill to add a train station to service Atlantic City International Airport has been introduced in the New Jersey Assembly.

The bill would direct the state Department of Transportation and N.J. Transit to build a rail station at Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township that would connect with NJ Transit’s Atlantic City Rail Line. The line currently runs from 30th Street Station in Philadelphia to the main rail terminal in Atlantic City with stops in Pennsauken, Cherry Hill and Egg Harbor, according to Philly.com.

“While travelers who arrive at Newark Airport have the convenience of using the train to get to their final destination, those who fly into or out of South Jersey are not afforded a similar option,” Assemblyman Tim Eustace, a Democrat from North Jersey and the bill’s sponsor, said in a press release. “An NJ Transit station stop at the Atlantic City airport would provide a means of transportation that is less expensive, more convenient and more environmentally-friendly than some of the other choices.”

The bill does not specify a cost for the project, but the local Press of Atlantic City reported that proposals in the past have been estimated at $25 to $30 million.

The bill has been by the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee.
