Blackpool Considered for UK Super-Casino

According to a report in the UK Sun newspaper, Blackpool is could become the location of Britain’s first super-casino resort. Talks have begun between the government and local officials over locating a mega-casino and leisure complex at the seaside resort.

Operators bidding to run the casino would sign up to a “social wealth fund” as a condition of licensing, the report stated. Revenues would be used to fund skills training and education locally.

Blackpool first sought a major casino development in 2007, but the UK Casino Advisory Panel ruled against the move.

In the latest effort, Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry told the paper that Blackpool is “a phenomenal resort which has huge potential for growth. It is early days, but this would be a very exciting project that would create a world-class attraction. It would be a major investment in the area which would bring additional visitors to Blackpool, create new jobs for local people and pour millions of pounds worth of investment into education and skills training.”
