Brazil’s Senate Still Unsure of Gambling Bill

The Brazilian Senate is in no hurry to discuss the bill approved by the Chamber of Deputies that will legalize gambling. The Senate has mixed views. And President Jair Bolsonaro (l.) will veto the bill.

Brazil’s Senate Still Unsure of Gambling Bill

The Chamber of Deputies bill to legalize gambling finally made it to the Brazilian Senate where it has less of a chance to pass and even it does, the president will veto it anyway.

Opponents brought up the usual fears: gambling brings drug and arms trafficking and child prostitution. And the issue of addiction, which causes people to lose their values, jobs, and dignity. Large casinos are used for money laundering.

In the opposite direction to the opponents and with great propriety, Senator Angelo Coronel says that the legalization of gaming in Brazil must be considered from the point of view of an economic agenda and not of customs. “Gaming in all locations where it exists generate a large amount of resources for the economy, representing a significant share of GDP.

For Senator Coronel, “resistance exists and is normal, but I always say that we are not creating anything, because gaming already exists. We are just looking to legalize it so that players pay taxes.”

The project is at a standstill with Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco waiting for the best moment to decide when it will be discussed. A video heard parliamentarians against and in favor of the legalization of the gaming sector, and is a sign that at any moment, due to the pressures it is under, the bill will have to start following the procedures.
