The iconic Tropical Hotel in Manaus in the Brazilian state of Amazonas is expected to reopen in December as a casino-hotel, depending on the Senate’s approval of Bill 442/1991. Approved earlier this year by the Chamber of Deputies, the bill would legalize and regulate casinos, bingo parlors and gambling.
The Fametro Group purchased the hotel in 2020 for R$91 million (US $18.5 million).
According to the bill under consideration in the Senate, casinos only may be installed in large resorts, with a limit of the number of such establishments per state. According to the size of the population in Amazonas, the area may have one authorization.
Besides the casino, the hotel will offer 580 rooms, several restaurants, a spa and concert space, and will create 1,000 jobs.
