British Columbia Endorses Gateway Casino Relocation

The Penticton City Council gave its unanimous support for relocating the Gateway Casino into a larger facility, which would create 150 new jobs and generate an estimated $25 million per year in additional economic activity for the city and its residents. The council approved the plan after holding public hearings and accepting comment.

The Penticton, British Columbia, City Council endorsed a plan to move Gateway Casino’s operations to a new location within the city.

The council recently held a special meeting to discuss Gateway’s plans to build a new casino, to be called the Cascades Casino, near the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Gateway expects the move to create 150 new jobs and generate another $25 million in revenues for the local economy, and says the Cascades Casino would include a gaming floor, several restaurants, and a venue for live entertainment. The casino’s featured restaurant, the Match Eatery and Public House, would occupy a rooftop patio as well as indoor restaurant.

The city council endorsed the plan after conducting several public hearings and accepting public comment the past two months, and most concerns focused on traffic, parking, litter, and other local issues, which council members said they would look at and remedy as needed.

Aside from a few traffic concerns, about 90 percent of the public expressed support for the plan, the council said, and voted 6-0 to approve the move.
