Churchill Downs named Tim Bryant president and general manager at Derby City Gaming in Louisville, Kentucky. Opening this fall, the $60 million, 85,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility will offer historical racing machines and simulcast wagering.
Most recently Bryant spent 15 months as chief operating officer at a casino in northern California. He also was president and general manager at Churchill Downs’ Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots in New Orleans from May 2010 through January 2017.
Churchill Downs President Kevin Flanery said, “While Churchill Downs is known around the world, we are committed to the city of Louisville and the community we call home. Strengthening the horseracing industry starts here in Kentucky, and we’re excited to have Tim Bryant back on board to help us lead the charge.”
Bryant, who will assume his new role on May 14, said, “Churchill Downs continues to bring new life and innovation to Kentucky’s signature horseracing industry through initiatives like Derby City Gaming, and I’m honored to reunite with such an accomplished team and the city of Louisville. Historical racing is critical to continued, long-term growth for our industry and keeping the Kentucky racing.”
Churchill Downs broke ground on Derby City Gaming in December. Recently company executives and members of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission held a topping-off ceremony as the final beam was put in place. The facility also will offer a player’s club reward center, two fast-food venues and a bar with seating for 50 people.
